Like if I have a weapon and it says damage "11-12 (requires 9 curses)" what does that mean? Do I do half the damage if I don't have 9 curses?

It means that you need to have 9 "points" in the Curses attribute to get the full damage. You get points in an attribute by distributing your "attribute points".

The requirement only affects the stat that it is listed after.

And yes, you will only do half damage if you don't meet the requirement.

Oh! Man I feel so silly now. I thought I needed to have 9 curses on the target or on me or something like that. Thanks!

While we are talking about items.. when it says "Customised for character name", does that mean I can't send this item to another character? Or is there a way to "un"customise it?

it means that only that character and the heroes belonging to that character can equip the weapon. no one else will be able to equip it, even other characters on your account. once a weapon is customized, it cannot be un-customized

the customization adds 20% of extra damage to your attacks with that weapon(if is a weapon, this dont work with shields, focus or armors)

Never customize something unless you are 100% sure you are not going to sell it.

Of course, when you get deeper to the game you will find weapons worth around or more than 100k,which I highly reccomend NOT customizing.

If I was you,I wouldn't customize any weapon,I find it does not do that much of a difference damagewise.

Hope you enjoy GW

But with caster weapons the requirements are almost moot. Any caster should either be damaging the foes by some other means or doing something else worthwhile - The few times you will need to wand/staff things the damage won't matter anyway.

If the weapon is a bonus weapon, you can get it on any other character (or again on the same character) by typing /bonus in chat panel.

Clarification: Armor is customised, and this is always the case. You do not choose to customise it, it is set that way when you get it. As such, you cannot use armor you obtain from other characters.

I would say that you should only customize weapons that you intend to do direct damage with. That would mostly involve melee weapons such as Sword, Axe, Hammer, Daggers, and Scythe, and some ranged weapons like Bows and Spears.

But, in any case, the only real disadvantage to customizing is that you can no longer sell the weapon or equip it on other characters. The choice is up to you. If it's a weapon that is not worth a great deal, or if you are sure you want to keep it, (even if you don't use it), the extra 20% damage never hurts - even on staffs or wands.
Some people get overly concerned about "OMG I can't sell it!" - there's always other stuff to sell and/or other weapons to get.

Note though, you can "send" your items to another character if the item is customized. People can put stuff customized to another player in their inventory. But you can't use the item.

Also, your heroes can use weapons you've customised. When you upgrade your weapon you can just give the weapon to a hero. That way you don't really 'lose' the weapon.
